The Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA) was created in early 2016 to empower new and growing authorizers and to continue to develop mature authorizers. Currently, CACSA members represent 22 district authorizers and CSI. Authorizers engaged in CACSA oversee more than 76% of Colorado’s charter schools. CACSA’s mission is to promote and support best practices in charter school authorizing and to help all Colorado charter school authorizers develop, adopt, and implement practices that improve results for all students. CACSA supports authorizers as they develop and implement best practices and convenes authorizing professionals in Colorado to help one another. CACSA regularly works with partners like the Colorado League of Charter Schools (CLCS) on model materials, as well as the Colorado Department of Education’s Schools of Choice Unit, with which it co-convenes regular meetings, to support a successful charter sector in Colorado.

California Charter Authorizing Professionals (CCAP) was founded by a group of committed and experienced charter school authorizing staff members from district and county offices from around the state who first came together in late 2013. CCAP was incorporated in late 2014 and received 501(c)(3) status in 2015. The mission of CCAP is to “advance quality public education for all students by providing charter school authorizing professionals with the support, resources, and collective voice necessary to foster high-performing, fiscally sound, autonomous, and accountable charter schools.” The CCAP board’s eight members have varying backgrounds, include current and former authorizers, and bring a rare level of depth and breadth of collective, unique experiences in charter authorization and oversight, charter school operations, general education experience and educational policy. In addition to its board, CCAP is supported by a statewide network of professionals who regularly contribute their ideas and energy.
